Campul Cetatii is a small village in a valley 50 km near Tirgu-Mures (Mures County), in the heart of Transylvania. Its reputation comes from the mountain brook who makes its way through the valley and especially from the trout farms hosted alongside. There are plenty of vacation chalets (huts) built there as Romanians are real conoisseurs when it comes of spending their weekends and holidays outdoor.
The place is still wild if you decide to step further and explore the surroundings. Springtime (March - April) is muddy, so be prepared and take a good pair of rubber boots or insulated footwear.
The fresh air raises your apetite quickly, so be prepared to visit one of the restaurants - and of course, their trout based meals are the house specialty. Yesterday (March, 03, 2007) we have visited Campul Cetatii (Hungarian name, Varmezo) and took our lunch at Vandor Fogado (The Wanderer Inn?), photo attached. Lunch cost for 7 people (2 x fish soup, 7 x grilled trout, beverages, desert) - 40 Euro/50 USD. And yeah, don't forget to ask for the garlic sauce (mujdei, in Romanian) as a must for the grilled fish.
